KMTG 345 week 7 Behavior
Seeing how people are interacting with your website is important, it helps you remain aware of what people are interested in. Google analytics has a nice behavior overview that gives a lot of information. Understanding what this all means is critical to maximizing the benefits of using Google Analytics.
When you enter the behavior section of your analytics page, Overview is a good place to start. This shows your: Pageviews, Unique Pageviews, Avg. Time on Page, Bounce Rate, and % Exit. This leads to a simple overview, as it's called, of what people are doing on your site. How many people are coming, how long are they staying, and whether or not they are staying at all.
The next part of Behavior is the Site Content reports, it has four different reports:
Content Drilldown Report: categorizes the data by sections of the website.
Landing Pages Reports: this shows what page people start on for various sections.
Exit Pages Report: this shows the last place people are before exiting your website.
This is useful because it helps you understand your website, and what the visitors of your website want and what topics they find most interesting.
Under behavior there is also the Site Speed, which regards how quickly website pages load on various browsers; Site Search, which is the search terms used on the search bar on your website; Events, which shows how people are interacting with your website, if you have a video on your website it can show when people stop watching; Publisher Reports, which links with AdSense, so you can see what referrals are generating the most money; and Experiment Reports, which is where you can create different experiments, like two different landing pages, and see how either is doing.
All of the aspects of behavior are important in understanding how people use your website. Knowing what people like viewing, when they are viewing it, and whether or not it is being viewed at all can help you optimize your users experience.
