MKTG 347 week 8 Facebook Ads
Facebook is the largest social media platform, which makes it a good place to put ads. Anyone with a Facebook profile knows how much information you give them upon signing up for an account, so it makes sense to put ads out since there are so many things you have control over. Facebook has every users age, town, birthday, and much more information, so ads can be tailored to specific people. Setting up ads on Facebook is very simple they walk you through every step.
When setting up an ad the first thing that needs to be done is to choose the objective from the following Facebook options:
I chose traffic because I am trying to increase the amount of people who see my blog and Facebook page.
The next step is setting up the account, this is where you pick the currency and time zone the ad goes off of. I picked the timezone I live in, but if you were living somewhere and wanted to run an ad tailored for somewhere else, this would be the place you can choose their timezone.
Since my ad objective is traffic the goal of this ad, as stated, is to "Send more people to a destination on or off Facebook such as a website, app or Messenger conversation" which is what I want to do, my blog is a website off of Facebook. The cool thing about all of this is this Audience Size/Daily Results estimator. This shows you the potential reach, about how many people on Facebook actually have the qualities desired. So this image is showing how many accounts Facebook has meeting the 18-65+, men and women, in the US there are 230,000,000 people. That's a very broad audience. Probably too broad, but still in the green zone so I'll go with it.
The Estimated Daily Results is determined by the budget inputted. So here it is showing the estimate with a daily budget of $20.00, but if that budget were to increase the Reach and Link Clicks would also increase.
While picking audience you have a lot of options. You can pick the age and gender of the people who will see your ad. These options include the country, as well as more specific locations within the country. You can pick to show it only to people who already like the page, or people who do not like the page yet. You can also pick interests you want people who see your ad to have based on interests available automatically on Facebook.
Detailed targeting is very cool, because as mentioned above, you can pick interests you want people to have before Facebook just shows them your ads.
Placement is where Facebook runs the ad. I'm not sure for what reason people would not pick automatic placement. Just go with automatic placement, if it is not working out you can try and edit placement. Start with automatic.
The next decision in setting up an ad is what the format you choose. This is pretty straightforward. If you have a few different images you want shown pick Carousel, every other one is very self explanatory and you should pick whichever would be best for what you are trying to promote.
The next part is picking a budget and schedule, you have two options a Daily Budget or Lifetime Budget. If you pick the daily budget that is how much you are willing to spend daily, you may not spend that much daily, but there is a chance you would. If you pick the Daily Budget, it is so important to pick under Schedule "Set a start and end date". If you do not do this the campaign will run forever, this is fine if you pick a Lifetime Budget because it will end when you run out of money. But if you pick a Daily Budget and it never ends, and it is not a successful ad, then you will be losing money. Facebook will gladly keep spending you money, so set an end date.
After this your ad must get confirmed by Facebook, this is pretty quick so you will be able to start running your ads shortly. Facebook ads are simple to use, and Facebook creates the audience for you so it is a great tool to bring awareness, or meet other objectives you may need met.
