MKTG 345 Week 1 Google Analytics Account

Google Analytics is a helpful tool you can use to track various types of activity on your website. The analytics tool gathers anonymous information about the users on your site. Google Analytics is a free tool with the learning material available on the Google Partners website, so it is free and easy to use.

Here's how to set up your Google Analytics account and put the tracking code on the blogger website. There are other websites this is compatible with, but for the purpose of this post I will be showing the steps of getting the tracking code on Google and where to put it on your blog.

When you go to the Google Analytics website, if you do not have an existing analytics account you will be prompted to create an account. It is a free service and any existing Google account works, (gmail, or whatever log in you use to view google docs and other Google websites) but if you don't have a google account it is free and easy to set up.

So once you are logged into your Google account and on the analytics website this is what the analytics set up is.

For this blog my account name is Marketing Blog and my website name is Kath Marketing, then the URL it's important to make sure you copy the URL to the blogs home page not to a specific post. For this blog I would need to make sure I put http://kathymktg.blogspot.com not a longer one that goes to a specific post.

Once all of that is filled out at the bottom of that page you'll see these two options:

Hit the blue Get Tracking ID button and you will get a code that you put onto your other website and through some computer magic Google Analytics will be able to track the activity because of that code.

Now putting it onto Blogger is very simple, when you are on your main blog editing page, not your main blog page, there is a list of different things you can do on blogger, one of them says "Settings" hit that and then hit the "Other" option.

Shown here:

In "Other" there are a few things that can be edited, but near the bottom of the page you'll see:

next to this is where you put the tracking code that you got by creating you Google Analytics account.

Setting up a Google Analytics is very easy and there are many different websites you can use Google Analytics to track the activity on.
